Her work in Alaska has received numerous honors including the prestigious Daniel Housberg Wilderness Image Award from the Alaska Conservation Foundation, the Voice of the Wild Award from the Alaska Wilderness League, and a Lowell Thomas Award from the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation.

More about  Salmon in the Trees – A Celebration of our Shared Traditions with Amy Gulick, photographer, storyteller and author – Haines, Alaska, October 16-23. Alaska Day is Thursday, October 18, 2012     Internationally acclaimed nature photographer and writer Amy Gulick paddled and trekked among the bears, misty islands, and salmon streams to document the intricate connections within the Tongass National Forest. Her book, Salmon in the Trees: Life in Alaska’s Tongass Rain Forest, is a 2011 Nautilus Book Award winner and a 2010 Independent Publisher Book Award winner.

Salmon in the Trees tells the remarkable story of the Tongass rain forest, where trees grow salmon, and salmon grow trees. Fringing the coastal panhandle of Alaska and covering thousands of islands in the Alexander Archipelago that borders the Haines Borough, the Tongass is among the rarest ecosystems on Earth.

Humpback whales, orcas, and sea lions cruise the forested shorelines. Millions of wild salmon swim upstream into the forest feeding an abundance of bears and bald eagles. Everyone–natives and non-native–benefits from the gifts of the forest and sea. This rich natural heritage belongs to us all, to steward, learn from and enjoy.
